There are many John Roth's in Ancestry, so nothing definitive can be found about this man. The medal came out in southern New Jersay in February of 2000. The medal is edge numbered 5821 indicating it was a Bailey, Banks and Biddle piece issued about 1932. It is officially engraved John J. Roth on the reverse. If Roth was from New Jersey or New York, he may have been in the 78th Division. Ancestry shows a John J. Roth born July 22, 1895 and dying March 9, 1970. This John J. Roth served as a Private in WW 1 beginning July 16, 1917. He is buried in Long Island National Cemetery, Section 2x, Site 5791, located in Farmingdale. NY. Accompanying the Purple Heart is an original sewn pinback ribbon and a small jewery box that it came in. The box has an embossed logo on the bottom with the date "1918". Some internet research accompanies the group.
