Alexander E. Kowalczyk was born in Bay City, Michigan January 11, 1895 and resided at 1401 18th Street, Bay City. He enlisted May 17, 1917 in Columbus, Ohio and trained at Fort Bliss in Texas with Provisionsl Ambulance Company A.
Kowalczyk was overseas from August 13, 1917 until July 22, 1919. He was wounded October 6 and 7, 1918. He returned to the US on the USS America and was discharged August 6, 1919.
The group consists of his officially engraved WIA Purple Heart, made by American Emblem Company and edge numbered 55187, plus copies of his WW1 records from Michigan. Also included is some Ancestry.com research. As of March, 2014 this group has movd on to another collector.
