This is a Purple Heart Bronze Star group to Staff Sergeant William Guers from Reading, Pennsylvania. These officially engraved medals were sent to Guers after he was returned to the US severly wounded. He was discharged from McGuire General Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on October 26, 1945, and returned to his home at 1233 Greenwich Street, Reading, Pennsylvania. His serial number is odd, but that is what was on his hospital discharge papers. Guers enlisted in Philadelphia on October 28, 1940 well before WW2 started. His enlistment information shown on the NARA site indicates he was in the cavalry. William Guers was born in Yatesville April 28, 1914, and died at Coatesville VA Hospital on October 26, 2003. He was cremated and is buried in Forest Hills Memorial Park in the Reading area.The group includes the medals, their titled boxes and cardboard shipping boxes. Also included is a ribbon bar for the Purple Heart and Bronze Star that shows evidence of slight wear. No other information is currently available. Any info would be appreciated.
