This is an incredible medal and document group to a real hero of World War 1. No biographical data has been found on Private Diamond. It is known that he lived at 762 East 3rd Street, Brooklyn, NY, after the war as his address is on the Purple Heart shipping box for the Purple Heart.
This medal group includes Private Diamond's dog tag, officially engraved WW1 WIA Bailey, Banks and Biddle Purple Heart, edge numbered 21003, with it's shipping box and ribbon bar, officially engraved BB&B Silver Star, edge numbered 1441, with ribbon bar and lapel pin, 2 bar WW1 Victory medal, and New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, numbered 800.
The paperwork with this group includes Private Diamond's original Silver Star Citation, dated March 27, 1919, and an original copy of 82nd Division General Order No. 1 dated 13 January, 1919 with Diamond's citation that reads: "on Oct. 16, 1918, during the Meuse Argonne offensive, Pvt. Diamond demonstrated his disregard of personal safety and unselfishness. While his unit was under very heavy shell fire, a bursting shell wounded a soldier of his command, and he immediately left shelter and went to his aid, and suceeded in bringing him to cover, all tho he was twice wounded inn doing so." As of 2013, this group has a new home with an avid 82nd Division collector.
