Staff Sergeant Edward J. Devlin was killed in action by a gun shot wound on December 7, 1944 probably in the Huertgen Forest as the 83rd advanced against the enemy. Devlin had been awarded the Bronze Star for an earlier action. That award is listed in 83rd Division GO 60, dated October 23, 1944, a copy of which is with this group. He was originally buried in Henri Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium. He was reintered in 1947 to his hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts.
The group includes Devlin's officially engraved slot brooch posthumous Purple Heart, his un-named slot brooch Bronze Star, an 83rd Division patch plus copies of the official paperwork describing his burial and subsequent reinterment.
