Alphonso DeGregorio was born in Chiete, Italy March 19, 1894. He arrived in New York City from Naples, Italy on July 5, 1911. It appears that he lived in Pennsylvania all his life and died in Pennsylvania in March, 1965. He registered for the draft in 1942. It is not known if he served in WW2.
Private DeGregorio was cited "For gallantry in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, France, September 28, 1918. Private DeGregorio displayed exceptional coolness and devotion to duty while acting as a litter bearor, often going out under heavy machine-gun fire to care for the wouded and assist them to the dressing station." n
DeGregorio's Silver Star was awarded August 7, 1934 as shown on the Silver Star award cards that accompany the group. The group consists of his officially engraved Bailey, Banks and Biddle Silver Star, edge numbered 7440, with ribbon, and its numbered box, five bar WW1 Victory medal, Pennsylvania National Guard medal, and bronze discharge button. As of March, 2014 this group has moved on to another collector.
