Charles Marion Barnes son of Edward and Mamie Barnes, was born January 2, 1923 in Wylie, Texas. He died of kidney cancer May 8, 1956 at age 33, leaving a widow. The last 6 months of his life, he was in the VA hospital in McKinney, Texas.

Charles Barnes enlisted in the Marines on February 11, 1941 and was discharged November 20, 1945. He was in the Pacific during 1943 and 1944. The muster roles show him in the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Barnes' group includes his WW2 Victory medal, named and dated Marine Good Conduct medal, large Marine EGA, small Marine collar EGA, 2 wide ribbon bars with Victory, Asia-Pacific, American Campaign and American theater bars, 2 Marine Unit Citation bars, 1st Marine Division patch, Gemsco sterling mini Rifleman's badge, and 3 clutchback pins.
