Research shows that Ray Amundson was born in 1923. He hailed from North Dakota and enlisted in the Air Corps November 18, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN. He must have gone to OCS or received a field promotion. He is found on the web as a member of the 97th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group.
His group includes his US Army Pilot Officer ring hallmarked Jacobson, his slot brooch Air Medal, officially engraved slot brooch Distinguished Flying Cross with ribbon bar, lapel pin and presentation case; hallmarked sterling wings, uniform service stripes, 15th Air Force patch, piece of white parachute material, and a small P-38 pin. Amundson is in the back row of the picture, second from right.
