Nicholas Christow was born in Greece May 8, 1897. He emmigrated to Detroit, Michigan on June 14, 1913. He became a naturilized citizen on March 18, 1920 in the US District Court in Cleveland, Ohio. Nicholas enlisted in the Regular Army on May 15, 1917. He made PFC on May 12, 1918, Corporal on September 4, 1918, and Sergeant October 24, 1918. He was in Company L, 28th Infantry until his discharge on September 24, 1919. He was in the following campaigns: Montdidier-Noyon, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector. He was slightly wounded in action on March 11, 1918, then wounded severly on July 19, 1918.

Sgt. Christow's group includes his WW1 Purple Heart edge numbered 36837, with its large oak leaf cluster, 5 bar WW1 Victory medal, French Croix de Guerre with silver star, Discharge Stripe, 1st Division patch, plus US and Infantry L disks. Paperwork includes Purple Heart award cards, Croix de Guerre award cards, and two Silver Star award cards, plus copies of internet research. Note that Christow was awarded a Silver Star with oak leaf cluster, but the locaton of that medal is unknown. As of May, 2013, this group has moved on to another collector.
