Willis Garren, Jr. was born in 1921 in Rome, Illinois to his parents Willis and Ether. It appears that he lived in Illinois until enlisting in the Army on September 2, 1942 in Chicago.

SSGT Garren was killed during the Battle of the Bulge just before it ended. He was probably killed near Malmedy in Belgium. He is buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Plot D Row 6 Grave 20.

Garren's group includes some internet research, plus his officially engraved slot broach Purple Heart in its presentation box, his framed original Purple Heart Certificate, framed Roosevelt death accolade, plus his original Burial Flag with transmittal document indicating the flag was used at his burial. His group was obtained at an estate sale near New Minden, Illinois.
